Counselling Programs
Low Self-Esteem
Self-esteem refers to how a person perceives him/herself, what you think you are worth, what you think of yourself. When your self-esteem is low then it means you are thinking less of yourself and feel less important. As a result, you become unhappy and affects a person’s confidence.
Anxiety & Fear Anxiety
A strong feeling of worry or fear that a person experiences when faced with an impending danger. Anxiety can cause a person to lose sleep, loss of adequate sleep and rest. Lack of adequate rest coupled with anxious feeling can make the person irritable, Tolerance level is quite low. The mental state of the individual is affecting the persons emotions and has a direct impact on his/her daily activities. The person tends to feel exhausted and not able to cope may lose self-confidence if nothing is done to help. This could eventually lead down the road of depression.
Depression
Depression is a several mental condition which can be identified by perpetual low mood, feelings of sadness or negative feelings towards everyday life experiences. A person experiencing depression may feel:
Guilt: They may blame themselves for everything that is happening wrong around them or past failures
Anxiety: Worried and fearful Continuous sadness: This feeling could last for a very long time with no apparent reason or explanation
Irritability: they tend to feel irritable and annoyed without any provocation, they can not stand the company of others
Feeling Suicidal, hopeless and helpless
Feeling tired constantly
Stress
Stress can be defined as a way the body reacts when exposed to pressure. It can also be said to be a negative reaction that people or a person has to anything that adversely affects the state of their mental health.
Post-natal Depression
According to the NHS Choices, ‘Post-natal depression is a type of depression some women experience after they have had a baby’.
Unlike baby blues, which can last only up to 4 days PND could start at anytime within the first year of the child. Symptoms include anxiety, confusion and depression. Sufferers could be either men or women. It is known that about half the number people suffering from PND do not share their feelings with their GP, health visitor or midwife for fear of them losing their children to social services.
Abuse (emotional/physical)
Any intentional or unwanted action by another person that causes significant harm in another person be it physical (domestic violence, child abuse) or emotional is referred to as abuse. If you have suffered any form of abuse it can leave an indelible mark on your mind. Often victims become prisoners in their mind and struggle to cope with daily life. Talking to someone in confidence can help reduce the weight off your mind.
Bereavement
The loss of a close friend, family member can become so unbearable. It could leave a big hole in ones life, a gap that seems insurmountable. It affects people differently, however closing and shutting yourself in can prolong the pain of loss. Talking about your loss, the memories shared with the departed can help you to gradually cope and embrace your new life.
Miscarriages/Post-natal Depression
The loss of a pregnancy no matter the stage could be quite traumatic and could leave the woman on the verge of depression. Often there are no medical explanation for the miscarriage which can contribute to the feeling of hopelessness. Post-natal depression could start at any time within the first year of the birth of the child and last for a much longer period. It can start gradually or suddenly. Symptoms could include: Feeling low, sad, irritable, having irrational thoughts, confused, anxious. If help is not sought it can develop into something even more serious.
